A Message From The Owner, Dan Williamson
It was a big risk, but one I was willing to take. While establishing my business and growing a company that worked alongside my family and core values, I learned an unforgettable lesson.
I had prepared for this moment, but I still felt a flicker of anxiety as I stepped through the doorway. Once I resigned from my position, there was no going back. In 2014, I walked away from my corporate job to start my own business and create a different legacy.
I have been working in the pest control industry since 2002. While in college, I started out selling services door to door over summers. My career grew quickly as I worked my way up through the ranks to operations and management within a big corporation. I achieved a successful career and comfortable living that supported my family, but it came at too high a cost.
In a high stress position, I was overworked and exhausted, not a sustainable lifestyle for my young family. I always had entrepreneurial leanings, so I created a plan and founded Falkin Pest Control within two years.
In the beginning, I worked hard to build my company from the ground up. I went door to door myself and serviced most of the homes for the first couple years. Fortunately, my brothers worked alongside me as I got the business off the ground. It was a lot of long days and tight margins trying to squeak through without the regular paycheck I had grown accustomed to. As the primary earner in my household at the time, my wife and children relied on me to make it work. It was sink or swim, and sinking was absolutely not an option. Although I received much advice against trying such a risky endeavor since most businesses fail early on, I forged ahead and found momentum within a few years and continued to grow at a rapid pace. My company started out in Texas (Dallas Fort Worth), and we still operate in that area today. In 2019, we decided to also expand our services to the Denver Metro Area, where my family and I now live.
A lot has changed since that day years ago when I took the first step toward my dream. My wife, Janell, and I have four children now, and I would not be here without my family. They drive me to succeed. Through all the ups and downs, we have gotten to the other side together.
COVID hit not long after we moved to Colorado. It was quite an adjustment with all our children at home, but we figured it out together. I realized we will always find a way to work through those sink-or-swim situations. My drive for success also comes from my history as an athlete. To me, competition means doing better than I did the day before. Life is about more than success and bottom lines – it is about people. I built my company with a team culture of respect, hard work and fun. We value clients and employees while treating everyone like family. From that genuine core value, we always strive to do what we feel is right. I love how we help others keep their homes healthy and safe, as well as the lifelong relationships we build along the way.
Whenever I am not working, I enjoy hiking, playing pickleball and hanging out with my wife and children. My favorite part of my job is working with others and helping them grow to be the best version of themselves.
